CHINESE TERRACOTTA FOREIGNER - TL TESTED.
Tang Dynasty, Ca. AD 618 - 907. A terracotta figure of a foreigner depicted in mid-action, standing on a rectangular pedestal. He might be in the process of a performance, hence the body posture of moving his arms. The figure may have been holding something. His face is modelled with a textured beard and, passionate expression. He wears a loose-fitting robe hiked around the waist, accompanied by a pair of tall black boots. Size: 580mm x 220mm; Weight: 5.59Kg Provenance: East Anglian private collection; formerly acquired in the early 1990s in Hong Kong. This piece has been precisely dated using a thermoluminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. The report will accompany the lot. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
