CHINESE TERRACOTTA HORSE AND RIDER - TL TESTED.
Tang Dynasty, Ca. AD 618 - 907.
The horse modelled standing four-square on a rectangular base, with a finely detailed mane combed to one side and mouth open as if neighing. The male rider sits astride, his body leaning back with one arm raised, possibly in the midst of a hunting or polo scene. Both figures retain traces of pigment.

Provenance: East Anglian private collection; formerly acquired in the early 1990s in Hong Kong.
This piece has been precisely dated using a thermoluminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. The report will accompany the lot.
