CHINESE TERRACOTTA PAINTED BULL - TL TESTED.
Tang Dynasty, Ca. AD 618 - 907.
A hollow-moulded earthenware bull standing four-square on a rectangular plinth, with the head raised in a bellowing pose. It features a powerful barrel-shaped body, a pronounced dewlap with incised folds, a short switch tail, and cloven hooves neatly blocked in. Long arcing horns and pricked ears frame a sharply modelled muzzle with drilled nostrils. The piece is coated in red slip, with traces of white and pink pigments.

This piece has been precisely dated using a thermoluminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. The report will accompany the lot.
