Chinese group with writing utensils, 5-piece; Tripod tray standing on volute feet with a central group of figures. A Chinese man sitting on a cushion with an open pot. A female servant standing behind him, holding a protective brass and porcelain palm umbrella. Flanking Chinese boys in kimonos with Indian flowers as ink and grit containers. Centre lidded box in the shape of a fruit with a corded leaf handle. Relief rocaille and scattered flower decoration. Polychrome painting with gold decoration. Probably designed by Friedrich Elias Meyer, reworked by Johann Joachim Kaendler and Peter Reinicke. Partially restored; minor wear; crossed swords mark. Writing utensil 35 cm x 24.5 cm. Group h. 25 cm. Total h. 30.5 cm. A rare complete writing set, the original design of which was commissioned by Frederick the Great in 1762: "A writing set in which a Chinese man sits on a pulster, holding his head up as if he were singing, behind him a woman holding a parasol over his head and acting as if she were listening to him". Cf. Rückert, cat. Bayr. Nationalmuseum, no. 993. A figural five-piece desk set with a Chinese group. Partly restored/chipped. Insignificantly rubbed. Crossed swords marks. Meissen. 19th century.
