Lot no. 27
Christian DIOR, BACCARAT Perfume bottle Diorama No. 2 amphora in white Baccarat crystal with gold threads (the base of the stopper broken) Height: 18.5 cm Following in the footsteps of the great "amphora" vases presented at the Universal and National Exhibitions, Baccarat began creating "amphora" perfume bottles in 1909, adding to the repertoire of traditional perfume bottle shapes and helping to write the history of perfume in France. For the creation of his first fragrances, Christian Dior himself chose the amphora, with its classic lines evoking Antiquity. He called on the master glassmakers of Baccarat to create the crystal case, which came in a range of colours and variations. He used the feminine curves of his haute couture models to design a luxury bottle that reflects the expertise of Baccarat's master glassmakers, and lives up to Dior's high standards of quality. These incredible bottles are on display at the Baccarat perfume bottle museum, which has one of the most prestigious collections in the world.
