Christian Peschke (1946 Bad Säckingen - 2017 Flintsbach)
Geisha
Expressive, neo-cubist depiction of a Japanese woman in bright colours, whose grotesque, voluminously rounded body forms and dynamic pose express sensual pleasure on the one hand, but on the other contradict both contemporary ideals of beauty and the idea of a delicate, restrained geisha. Peschke was repeatedly inspired by the styles and forms of expression of classical modernism, which included the French Cubists and Fauvists as well as the German Expressionists. He merged these into his own style and created colourful paintings that express passion, vitality and the joy of life. Peschke, who studied under Gerhard Gollwitzer at the Stuttgart Academy, first settled in Spain as a freelance artist at the age of 35; he later lived in Merano and Bolzano, Bruckmühl and Flintsbach. Peschke has been represented at numerous exhibitions at home and abroad since the mid-1990s. Oil or acrylic/plywood panel. L. o. signed; 80 x 60 cm. Frame.
