Lot no. 1957
Christian Peschke (1946 Bad Säckingen - 2017 Flintsbach) White and blue horse in a southern landscape with a red tower In his large-format painting, Peschke takes up a primal motif of art that has fascinated painters from the Stone Age cave paintings to the present day: the horse with all its symbolism and its close connection to man. As is often the case, Peschke works here in his blue-red colour scheme with strong cold-warm colour contrasts, strong contours and two-dimensional distortions that cancel out the spatiality. Horses are central motifs in his oeuvre, as they reflect vitality, strong physical strength and freedom. Peschke stands in a conscious tradition of classical modernism and the avant-gardes of the first half of the 20th century, whereby he was inspired by Cubism as well as the German Expressionism of the "Brücke" painters and the "Blaue Reiter", Franz Marc, Wassily Kandinsky, Pablo Picasso and Marino Marini. Peschke, who studied under Gerhard Gollwitzer at the Stuttgart Academy, first settled in Spain as a freelance artist at the age of 35; he later lived in Merano and Bolzano, Bruckmühl and Flintsbach. Peschke has been represented at numerous exhibitions at home and abroad since the mid-1990s. Oil or acrylic/plywood panel. L. and signed; 180 cm x 150 cm. Frame. Provenance: Dissolution of the estate of a South German private collection - Part I. Oil or acrylic on plywood panel. Signed.
