Lot no. 32
Unregistered Chassis n° unknown Engine n° 571 - Rare surviving example - Thoughtful design and production - Innovative technical ideas - No reserve The Second World War was conducive to the design of small economic cars, often very innovative and unusual. The Julien, the result of the creativity of its engineer Maurice A. Julien, well known for being one of the creators of the Citroën Traction Avant, was a part of this "movement." After its development and the presentation of a prototype at the 1946 Paris Show, it was officially marketed the following year under the model name MM5 2cv. It was innovative in more ways than one, and several patents were filed during its design, especially for its chassis-shell, as well as for the group engine/gearbox/axle/bi-pendular rear wheels fixing. The example on offer became a part of the Michel Grosgogeat collection many years ago and remained immobile for several decades. With its older paint, the car is complete except the hood, the windows and the nameplate. The Julien engine, a 310cc 4-stroke single-cylinder with a cooling turbine, has not seized. Only a few examples of this very original automobile remain; the genius of its designer and the care taken in the making of this vehicle deserves to be highlighted by a restoration of good quality.
