Introduced in 1935, the Citroën Type 23 had a very long career, continuing into the 1960s. Used as a utility truck, bus or military vehicle, it was part of the post-war French road landscape. In its last decade of production, it had already acquired a reputation for robustness and versatility, particularly among tradesmen, hauliers and public services.
Technically, the Type 23 was based on a simple but solid rear-wheel drive chassis, offering a payload of around 2 tonnes. It was powered by 4-cylinder petrol engines (from the Citroën catalogue, including the Traction engine).
