Lot no. 19
Claire DEBRIL (1927 - 2021) : Ceramic pitcher. Signed Debril on the reverse of the base. H: 17 cm. Significant crack. Provenance: estate of one of the artist's patrons.
Born in 1927, Claire Debril worked with clay in the Paris region. Her meeting with the sculptor Henri Laurens marked her conception of works that would henceforth display a particular relationship to the empty and the full. Faithful to the flattened colombin technique, she covers earthenware and stoneware with enamels applied with a brush. Sharp colours on freeform shapes give Claire Debril's pieces, whether utilitarian or not, a special vibrancy. This ceramist, who was exhibited in major French collections, died in 2021.
