Two artillerymen on horseback. 1916. lithograph on wove paper. 26.6 x 21.2 cm (35 x 27.5 cm). Mounted in dots on support, freestanding in passepartout. - With handwritten inscription in pencil in white margin lower right and verso. With minimal yellowing in the former mat opening, the corners with minimal and barely noticeable bumping, the paper somewhat wavy. Very good overall. Splendid, deep black and chalky impression of the image with margins.

B. - One of only 12 copies printed for the publisher Paul Cassirer, Berlin. - With expressive and almost painterly lines, Kircher uses the technique of lithography to capture the moving atmosphere of the scene. The motif of the soldiers reflects Kirchner's personal experiences of war and occupies a central position in the context of his oeuvre as a whole.
