Provenance: Acquired from Galerie Bernard Ceysson in Saint-Etienne, December 2015. Public price € 10.200 Claude Viallat, born in 1936 in Nîmes, is a major French painter of contemporary art. A co-founder of the Supports/Surfaces movement, he challenged traditional painting by using free canvases and salvaged materials. From 1966, he developed a repeated abstract motif that has become his signature. In 1982, he represented France at the Venice Biennale. His work, centred on colour, form and material, remains highly influential today.
