Strictly speaking, this work by Claudia Comte is a relic from the exhibition ‘When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth’, which was shown at the König Galerie in Berlin in 2018. At the centre of the installation were twenty spruce trunks hanging from the ceiling, creating a sacred presence in the room. A niche had been carved into each of these trunks, also reminiscent of the shape of a reliquary. Comte placed various objects made from different materials in each of them. In this case, a finely polished marble box - an everyday object that immediately takes on the character of a religious icon thanks to the fine choice of materials and meticulous craftsmanship. The raw power of nature meets stunning precision craftsmanship, raising questions about the relationship between man, nature and culture and their transience. Genau genommen handelt es sich bei dieser Arbeit von Claudia Comte um ein Relikt aus der Ausstellung "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth", die 2018 in der König Galerie in Berlin gezeigt wird. Im Zentrum der Installation stehen zwanzig Fichtenstämme, die von der Decke hängen und im Raum eine fast sakral anmutende Präsenz erzeugen. In jeden dieser Stämme ist eine Nische eingearbeitet, die zudem an die Form eines Reliquienschreins erinnert. Darin platziert Comte jeweils unterschiedliche Objekte aus verschiedenen Materialien. In diesem Fall eine fein polierte, aus Marmor gearbeitete Dose – ein alltäglicher Gegenstand, der durch die edle Materialwahl und sorgfältige Ausarbeitung unmittelbar ikonischen Charakter annimmt. Die rohe Kraft der Natur trifft auf beeindruckende handwerkliche Präzision und wirft dabei Fragen nach der Beziehung zwischen Mensch, Natur und Kultur sowie deren Vergänglichkeit auf. Comtes Interesse an der Erforschung von Materialität, Zeit und der Schnittstelle zwischen Natur und Technologie fällt einmal mehr ins Auge.
