Lot no. 171
Musical automaton case France, Napoleon III, late 19th century 5 x 11 x 7 cm
Made of gilded bronze with rich relief decoration and figurative inserts. The body is rectangular in shape resting on small hemispherical feet, with surfaces decorated with engraved and embossed plant motifs; the sides are decorated with relief scenes depicting putti in playful attitudes, in the classicist style. The lid is embellished with a central oval medallion with a painted scene of gallant inspiration, mounted on an openwork structure; this element is probably part of the automaton mechanism and can be mobile or rotating during operation. The lots that are the subject of this auction are located in a private home in Rome. Participation in the auction implies the full acceptance of the condition that the pick-up of the auctioned goods will be entirely at the care, risk and expense of the successful bidder. It is understood that any disassembly, packaging, transport and pick-up operations must be organised directly by the successful bidder. It is therefore recommended that all necessary information be requested in advance, also in order to acquire any transport estimates before making a bid.
