Lot no. 131
COIFFURES. Presumed second lieutenant's kepi of grenadier or voltigeurs of the Imperial Guard in madder-coloured cloth with black velvet headband, false chinstrap and flat gold braids, gold cannetille grenade sewn on the front, black cotton inner cap, black leather headband. Second Empire period. Wear from use. ABE This kepi, reputed to have been found as it was, has a grenade attached to the headband, reminiscent of the infantry officers of the Imperial Guard, but the lack of elite braid weakens this hypothesis, although at the siege of Metz and in the prison camps, the general shortage may explain this assembly.
