ABE In 1918 the R.M.L.E., a marching regiment of the Foreign Legion, commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Rollet, relieved the US troops. During 13 days of uninterrupted fighting, the regiment attacked the Hindenburg Line, with the 2nd Battalion taking Terny-Sorny and capturing many prisoners. The enemy reacted and Major Jacquesson's 1st Battalion arrived to reinforce the decimated 2nd Battalion, whose leader, Captain de Lannurien, was mortally wounded. On the 5th, the 3rd Battalion under Battalion Chief Maire launched a real coup de boutoir and took Sorny, then Neuville-sur-Margival and, on the night of the 5th to the 6th, the Vauxaillon tunnel.
