Lot no. 134
COIFFURES. Rare 1867 model shako made from an 1858 type troop képi in madder cloth with dark blue headband, daffodil cockade braid and cords, metallic tricolour cockade, metallic side vents, rigid snap-fastening visor, complete basane inner cap stamped in red ink by Godillot, size 57. Second Empire period. Worn from use. ABE This unique "képi-shako" was described by Louis Delpérier in Tradition Magazine No. 34 (2012) who states "Looking like an 1867 shako, this very curious headdress is none other than a képi model 1858 fitted with daffodil braid, a cockade and a pompom. The visor is probably that of a model 1860 shako. The interior reveals that Godillot is the maker of this perfectly authentic "tweak". Distributed to the 36th and 92nd Line, it was not retained because it was considered too fragile for use in the field.
