Lot no. 15
COLETTE (Sidonie Gabrielle Colette, known as) S. l., s. d.. Autograph letter signed to Hélène and Philippe Berthelot. 2 p. in-4 (25.5 x 19.9 cm) on blue paper with his letterhead. Autograph letter signed to his couple of friends, Hélène and Philippe Berthelot. On her return from her holiday, she extols the virtues of Saint-Tropez to her friends. "I've just arrived from St Tropez: there's no way you won't come and live there one day. Isn't it as good as Plessis-Macé? We can talk." Enthralled by the town, in 1925 she bought her house at Treille Muscade, where she spent every summer until 1938. She told the couple that she would leave them a photo of her cat, perhaps the portrait of Bâ-tou that Philippe Berthelot had given her in 1921. "I've brought back the portrait of the cat I promised Philippe, and I'll drop it off at your house as soon as I can get my nose out of a pile of paper, all of which is disgusting, by the way". She ends her letter humorously, hoping to see her friends that evening. "But maybe I'll see you tonight at the Marivaux-Douglas? Thank God you are frivolous! Love and kisses to you both." Enclosed is a postcard (13.8 x 8.8 cm) of a portrait of Colette by Henri Manuel.
