COLLECTION OF EGYPTIAN FAIENCE AND STONE SCARABS
Ca. 2055 - 1069 BC
A collection of five scarabs in glazed steatite stone, faience and amethyst of ovoid form with naturalistic features. Beneath the domed insects are hieroglyphic inscriptions and the typical symbols of the Middle Kingdom. A suspension hole is drilled lengthwise through the body, for mounting on a necklace or a swivel ring. Reviewed by Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition.
