COLLECTION OF ROMAN AND BYZANTINE TERRACOTTA OIL LAMPS.

A collection of ten terracotta oil lamps, each with a drop-shaped or circular body and a recessed central filling hole within a raised rim. The shoulders have moulded decoration, including pellets, ribbing and small geometric motifs, and the nozzles terminate in round wick holes; some lamps with a short rear lug or handle.

Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of an early 2000s UK ancient art collection; formerly acquired in Cambridge from the H. Cutting collection (formed between the 1980s and early 2000s).
