LOUIS XIV CHEST OF DRAWERS entirely decorated with Boulle marquetry mother-of-pearl, pewter and polychrome elements of green and red tinted horn, cut brass on a brown tortoiseshell background. It opens three drawers. The top is entirely decorated marquetry with hunters and animals. and animals. This marked the beginning of a new style under the reign reign of King Louis XIV, which moved away from the hieratic and solemn forms promoted by Le Brun, to the curves, curlicues and interlacing inherited from Le Brun, curves and interlacing inherited from the Renaissance which enjoyed a new lease of life at the dawn of the eighteenth century. Although our chest of drawers is not stamped, its decoration contains elements that can be attributable to the cabinetmaker Nicolas Sageot, master in 1706 and working in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine.
