Provenance:
German private collection.
The ebeniste Adrien Delorme created numerous pieces of furniture in the Louis XV and Transition styles. Striking, colorfully accentuated banded inlay work is a typical feature of his work (see Alexandre Pradère: Die Kunst des französischen Möbels [The Art of French Furniture]. Munich, 1990, pp. 180–181). The striking rocaille motif accentuating the reserves in the corners can be found on a chest of drawers by Delorme, which is also very similar in shape and was sold at Christie's in 1983 (see Pierre Kjellberg: Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIe Siècle. Paris 1989, p. 244).
