Léonard Boudin (1735-1807), a cabinet-maker who was awarded the title of Master in 1761, began his career working for the cabinet merchant Migeon. From 1770 onwards, his growing reputation earned him commissions from other cabinet-makers such as Peridiez and Louis Moreau. In 1772, he opened his own shop and in turn gave work to his colleagues: Topino, Denisot and Gilbert. Some time later, Boudin exclusively offered the work of other cabinet-makers, affixing his stamp, which became a mark of quality. Several works by this skilled cabinetmaker are held in public collections. These include a small Louis XV commode in the Louvre, a large Louis XV commode with two drawers and no crossbar in the Château de Versailles and a small Louis XV secretary in the Cleveland Museum of Art.
