Knife with an asymmetrical, leaf-shaped blade of wrought iron with a curved tip; long wooden handle with a brown patina, baluster-shaped in profile with a spatula-shaped base, decorated with two bands of incised chequered patterns. Metal ferrule in a serpentine pattern. A type also used by the Budu and Mangbélé peoples. First half of the 20th century. Total length: 41 cm. Blade: 10.6 cm. Provenance: John van Kessel Collection (Antwerp, 1885), secretary to Louis Franck, Minister for the Colonies (1918–1924), then passed down through the family. Condition: oxidation and pitting on the blade.
