Trumbash sickle knife, Mangbetu, forged iron blade in the shape of a sickle with two eyelets, openwork guard with a cruciform decoration, turned handle with rings. A prestige weapon. First third of the 20th century. 39.5 cm. Provenance: the collection of John van Kessel (Antwerp, 1885), Secretary to the Minister for the Colonies (1920–1924), then passed down through the family.
