In-12, glazed calf, smooth spine with red title-piece (Binding of the period). First Paris edition, published a few days after the very rare first edition printed in London. First state copy, with Paris and London addresses. "One of the most beautiful novels in French literature, one of the most mysterious and provocative ever written" (En français dans le texte, n°225). Binding rubbed, cover missing and restored, foxing.
