Furthermore, ‘Life’ was open all day, making it possible to experience the exhibition both by day and by night. To create the effect at night, Eliasson coloured the water of the water-lily pond with fluorescent dyes that glowed in the dark, signifying a fluid transition from day to night. In this interplay – and without boundaries – between light and darkness, nature and the museum spaces, the institution, the artist and the visitors, everything comes together in an immediate sense of togetherness. Coexistence means life; ‘Life’ was Eliasson’s approach to making the world a place worth living in through ultimate openness to all species. Silkscreen in luminous paint on paper.
