Lot no. 363
Contemporary Art Norbert Bisky Guten Tag Du neuer Morgen, bist so jung und frisch wie wir. 1998. India ink on wove paper. 10 cm x 27.5 cm (29 x 27.5 cm). Signed, dated and numbered as a unique serial work. Sheet slightly and barely noticeably wavy due to the technique. Overall very good with a lively, confidently executed composition. One of 50 copies. - From the portfolio "Klasse Baselitz". - Rare, early work by Norbert Bisky, created as part of an exhibition of the Baselitz class. The title of the work refers to the GDR pioneer song "Guten Tag, du neuer Morgen, bist so jung und frisch wie wir" (Good day, you new morning, you are as young and fresh as we are), which points to Bisky's examination of his East German origins and the ideologies associated with them. Within his oeuvre, the works on paper occupy a special position; in this early work, elements can already be recognised that characterise Bisky's later work: the seemingly fragmented depiction, oscillating between figuration and abstraction, populated by athletic, youthful figures in seemingly euphoric but destabilised spaces reflect both his East German socialisation and the ambivalences of ideology, consumption and identity in the postmodern era.
