This compilation of accounts of British expeditions - commanded successively by Commodore Byron, Captain Carteret, Captain Wallis and Captain Cook, in the vessels the Dauphin, the Swallow and the Endeavour - was written from the commanders' journals and the papers of Joseph Banks. It contains the first official report in French of Cook's first voyage around the world, translated from the English original of 1773 (two years after a first unauthorised report).
