Precious collection of the French first editions of Cook's three voyages in uniform contemporary bindings. The official account of Captain Cook's first circumnavigation is to be found in the compilation of accounts of British expeditions written by John Hawkesworth and translated by J.-B. Suard, which occupies the first four volumes. It is illustrated with 52 maps and plates, most of them fold-outs. The second voyage, also translated by Suard, occupies the next four volumes, followed in a fifth by the account of the expedition by J. R. Forster. The illustrations consist of a portrait and 66 plates. Cook's last voyage, translated and published by J.-N. Démeunier, includes 88 plates and a table. Finally, the first French edition, translated by J.-H. Castéra, of Andrew Kippis' biography of Cook is included.
