His list of first ascents, mostly with guide Joseph Knubel, is impressive: East face of the Weisshorn in 1905, South face of the Taeschorn, South-West face of the Dom in 1906, East face of the Rothorn in 1907, Brouillard ridge on Mont-Blanc, Hirondelles ridge and West ridge of the Grandes Jorasses, Grépon-mer de glace in 1911... Seriously injured during the 14-18 war, he had to have one leg amputated.
