In-4, midnight blue morocco, mosaic composition of cream, ochre, brown and green morocco on the first cover, interior lace, enamelled vellum lining by Jeanne Dinet-Rollince, blue silk endpapers, gilt edges, cover preserved (Léon Gruel). Beautiful edition reproducing the manuscripts of the text by François Coppée and the music by Jules Massenet in heliogravure, decorated with 47 etchings by Louis-Edouard Fournier engraved by Léon Boisson, and two portraits of Sarah Bernhardt and Mademoiselle Agar who played the main roles in the play at the Odéon theatre in 1869. Edition of 300 copies, this one an unjustified copy on japon impérial with a double suite. Superb binding by Gruel, lined with enamelled vellum by Jeanne Dinet-Rollince. A talented artist, Jeanne Dinet-Rollince collaborated with the bookbinder Léon Gruel to create the decorations for exceptional bindings, using the anagram of her married name Cornille as a pseudonym. From the library of Charles Freund-Deschamps, with bookplate. Slipcase missing, small scratch restored on first cover.
