Pair of tops in commesso di pietre dure Florence, second half 19th century wood, marble and semi-precious stones 126 x 60 cm - (base H 88 cm) Pair of black marble tops with refined inlay in polychrome marbles and semi-precious stones, including amethyst, nephrite, lapis lazuli, chalcedony, with mother-of-pearl and antique yellow Siena marble inserts. Each top has a composition of musical instruments (lyre and wind instruments) in the centre within a garland of grape shoots and bunches, and stylised phytomorphic motifs in the corners. Perimeter frame in yellow Siena marble.The quality of the marquetry and the ornamental setting recall 19th century Italian production, in terms of technique and taste it is close to the work of the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence.Resting on ebonised wooden plinths, not relevant.
