Pair of sculptures depicting skulls 16th century stone 17 x 20 cm A rare pair of sculptures depicting skulls, resting on shaped bases, executed with compact modelling and marked definition of the orbital cavities and dentition. The formal essentiality and strong symbolic value recall the iconographic tradition of the memento mori, widely diffused in Renaissance figurative culture in the religious and meditative sphere. Artefacts of significant suggestion, traceable to 16th century Italian production, rest on pitch bases.
