Lot no. 6
CORBIÈRE (Tristan). Les Amours jaunes. Paris, Glady frères, 1873. In-12, green half-chagrin (period binding). Sought-after first edition. In the frontispiece, an original etching by the author which passes for a self-portrait. One of 481 copies on hollande, the only edition except for 9 copies on jonquille paper. Tristan Corbière's only collection of poetry, Les Amours jaunes was not a success when it was published. Corbière died two years later, aged twenty-nine. It was Verlaine who brought the poet to public attention in 1884, devoting a chapter to him in his Poètes maudits. Huysmans also made him known by placing Les Amours jaunes prominently in Des Esseintes' library. Binding slightly rubbed, engraving discharge.
