Lot no. 161
CORNIANI, Giambattista (1742-1813). Reflections on coins. Verona: Giuliari, 1796.
Rare first edition, never recorded at auction (RBH), a genuine and well-preserved copy of this work, in which the author disputes Locke, Galiani, Genovesi, and Carli, arguing that monetary creation does not necessarily lead to inflation but instead benefits domestic products over imported ones. This hymn to monetary revaluation was sharply criticised by Pecchio, who denounced it as a 'fatal abuse' (Pecchio, pp. 208-10).
8vo (228 x 155 mm). Uncut; bound in contemporary wrappers. (1)
