CHILDREN'S COSTUMES. Modes de Paris. S.l.n.d. [Paris, circa 1810]. Small in-4, fawn half-calf with green and blue vellum corners, ornate smooth spine, long title page, marbled edges (Binding of the period). Complete suite of an engraved title and 24 plates engraved in stipple and etching and coloured in watercolour of costumes of babies and children of the First Empire, depicted playing various games of the period. This suite, without an author's name, is attributed to Boilly or Bosio in the Montgermont catalogue. It is extremely rare. An illustrious copy, the only one cited by Colas and one of the very few known copies to include the engraved title, along with the one in the BnF (OA-131-4). This engraved title, on which appears the number of plates and the price of 30 centimes per sheet in colour, was notably missing from copies in the Louis Becker (1954, n°77) and Marcel Lecomte (2022, I, n°105) collections. A curious two-tone binding, with the first board covered in pink glue paper with green vellum corners and the second in multicoloured marbled paper with blue vellum corners. The copy belonged to Professor Louis-Charles Deneux (1767-1846), the famous obstetrician of the Duchess de Berry, who delivered her to the citadel of Blaye, with his bookplate reading Recherches générales sur l'Homme et particulièrement sur la Femme.
