Gustave Courtois was a French painter, known in particular for his expressive portraits. He studied at the Paris Academy of Fine Arts under the recommendation of the history painter Jean-Léon Gérôme and later taught painting himself at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and the Académie Colarossi. - With inconspicuous smudges in places due to the technique, paper with small and quite inconspicuous weak spot (somewhat fragile) in the lower motif, with a pinprick in the face.
