German paratrooper knife. Metal fittings in original colour, wooden plates. The grenadiere ring is present, but the blade locking system is missing. The blade is in good condition, marked Paul Weyersberg Solingen Rostfrei. A Luftamt 5 marking is visible on the side pick of the knife. It is fitted with a braided leather lanyard, a non-regulation model. Note some wear and a nice patina to the piece. Condition II+. According to the seller, this knife comes from Sainlez. Between 18 and 28 December 1944, Sainlez was the scene of heavy fighting. The village was the target of intense allied bombing aimed at dislodging the German forces. These attacks resulted in the destruction of most of the houses and the death of many civilians. On 27 December, American troops recaptured the village.
