Craven (Elisabeth Berkeley). Voyage en Crimée et à Constantinople, en 1786. Paris, Maradan, 1789. In-8°, (3) ff, 443 pp, (2) ff, brown marbled calf, spine ribbed richly decorated and gilt, gilt edges (contemporary binding). First French edition translated from English by Guedon de Berchère, (illustrated with an engraved folding map of the Crimean routes, engraved by Tardieu, and 6 engraved folding plates. 2 corners dulled, slight chip to one corner, otherwise a good copy. Correspondence between Elizabeth Craven (1750-1828) and her lover, the Margrave of Anspach, totalling 68 letters written during her journey between 1785 and 1786. Due to a compromised reputation, she was forced to leave England after being rejected by her husband. At the end of the volume, a Catalogue of works available from the same bookseller.
