CRUSADER PERIOD SILVER AND NIELLO RING WITH CROSSES. Ca. AD 1200 - 1300. A silver ring with a broad hoop that expands gradually towards a bezel inlaid with niello. The field is engraved with a large cross whose four arms each contain a smaller cross pattée. The design is set within an octagonal framework and enclosed by a fine notched niello border, with the shoulders detailed by triangular niello panels.
