CYPRIOT TERRACOTTA FIGURE OF A COW.
Ca. 1400 - 1200 BC
A terracotta figure of a cow modelled in the round with a compact body supported on four straight, columnar legs. The head is formed with a broad muzzle, circular eyes, ears set to either side, and short horns, the neck with a pronounced dewlap. The flanks are marked with a series of shallow ridges, and the udder is modelled beneath the belly. The tail is raised and turned back in a loop, ending in a pendant tuft against the rump.

Private London collection; previously acquired on the Belgian art market; originally in the collection of S Vanhoutte, Brussels 1990’s.
