One of 3900 numbered copies on Vélin pur Chiffon de Rives, with Dalì's impressive, partly surrealistic images. Dante's overwhelming dream and world poetry... was illustrated by Dalí according to the individual cantos... The one hundred colour woodcuts... belong to the most exciting and suggestive in the history of Dante illustrations". - Wide-margined print on rich vellum. - The slipcases minimally rubbed at the corners and edges, some pages minimally fingerstained, otherwise in excellent condition. With 100 colour wood engravings after striking, partly surrealist watercolours by Dali. - One of 3900 copies on Vélin pur Chiffon de Rives (of a print run of 4765). - Loose sheets in the original French cardboard covers and illustrated slip-cases. - The Suite to the Divina Commedia was originally triggered by an Italian government commission for the Dante Jubilee (Wünsche/Tuchel III, 1-100). The one hundred colour woodcuts are among the most exciting and suggestive in the history of Dante illustrations (Wünsche/Tuchel). - Wide margins. Slip-cases in parts very slightly worn, some leaves somewhat minimally finger-stained, otherwise a splendid set. This lot is taxed.
