Lot no. 72
Damien Deroubaix (born 1972) - "World Downfall N.Y.C".
Srigraphy numbered 36/40. Signed and dated 2007. Framed under glass. Dimensions with frame: H: 71 ; W: 101 cm. The work of Damien Deroubaix (known as Damien) follows in the footsteps of Berlin Dada artists, notably John Heartfield, whose principles of montage and recomposition of images from the press he adopts. During his years as a student in Berlin, he collected advertising and media images from newspapers and then reworked them in his studio. The present work was produced by the artist in Berlin after a residency in New York. Her choice of serigraphy was an essential advantage for the expression of her work, because unlike engraving Ń where the gouge is clearly visible in the wood Ń, serigraphy allows the drawing character of the line to become more apparent. It thus creates a direct link with his work as a draughtsman, where the line, freer and more immediate, occupies an essential place.
