First French edition of this very fine work on the islands of the Aegean, as well as Crete, Cyprus, Rhodes, etc., translated from the Dutch original of 1688. It was reprinted in The Hague in 1730. Superb copper-engraved illustration, comprising an allegorical frontispiece, 34 plates and maps outside the text, often folding or double-page spreads, and 43 mid-page engravings in the text. A fine copy, well bound in the period, complete with the false title and the notice to the bookbinder. Headbands faded, corners dull, occasional foxing, nudity in brown ink on frontispiece.
