AFTER JACOPO TATTI, KNOWN AS JACOPO SANSOVINO (1486-1570) Saint John the Baptist The saint stands with a bearded head looking down on his right. His right arm raised in front of his chest and pointing to the right. His left arm and shoulder are bare and his left hand is holding a book. The cloak, worn over a coat of skin over his left leg above the knee, leaving the knee, leaving the lower part of both legs of both legs, and falls to the ground at the back. It rests on a square base. Italy, 17th or 18th century. Height: 23.6 cm - Width: 9 cm Depth: 5.8 cm (Good general condition, wear, cast iron defects) PROVENANCE - Nicolas de Hurtado Collection (1854 - 1920) - Probably stolen on 21 December 1937 and returned to the family on 23 current to the widow of the previous owner, née Amparo, Baroness Beyens (1859 - 1946) - It has remained in the family to this day. A very similar copy is kept at the Fi tzwi l l iam Museum, Cambridge (MAR.M.201-1912). It is given as 17th or 18th century.
