After Pierre Paul RUBENS (1577-1640) Allegorical cycle dedicated to Marie Medici "La Gallerie du palais Luxembourg peinte par Rubens dessinée par les Sieurs Nattier et gravée par les plus illustres graveurs du temps dédiée au Roy se vendée à Paris chez le Sieur Duchange graveur du Roy en son Académie royale de peinture et sculpture rue Saint Jacques au-dessus de la rue des Mathurins avec privilège de sa majesté 1710". (sic) Album of 24 plates, including two doubles. Very fine proofs on laid paper H. 64 cm - W. 48 cm (the album) ANC Some proofs are yellowed, with some spotting and/or wetness, but overall in good condition. Binding from the time, breaks along the hinges, and some defects on the boards. The copy bears an unidentified bookplate. Missing one double plate (the 1710 Duchange edition has three double plates). The engravings reproduce the famous allegorical cycle painted by Rubens between 1622 and 1625 for the Galerie du Palais du Luxembourg in Paris, at the request of Marie de Médicis, widow of Henri IV. This cycle, comprising 24 paintings, celebrates the life of the queen in the form of mythological and political allegories. The originals are now in the Musée du Louvre.
