Paris, Michel Lévy frères, 1862; in-12 of [6]-195-[2] pp, midnight blue morocco, large gilt frame on the covers composed of straight and pearled fillets cut at the corners, with fleurons, ribbed spine decorated with gilt motifs, red morocco lining decorated with gilt lace, red moire grades, gilt edges on witnesses, cover and spine (M. Lortic). First edition of which no large paper was printed. Daudet was only 22 when the book appeared. Magnificent gilt and lined binding by Marcellin Lortic - Unidentified HBS bookplate, but always found on fine books of literature.
