Tokyo Museum of Contemporary Art 162. 1975. In 1976 David Hockney created his remarkable 'Friends' series, capturing the essence and personality of his subjects with characteristic clarity and warmth. Produced at Gemini G.E.L. in Los Angeles, these portraits were drawn from life, with Hockney's friends posing for him in carefully constructed domestic settings. Offering a deeply autobiographical glimpse into the artist's circle in 1970s Los Angeles, the series includes portraits of Henry Geldzahler, Mo McDermott, Brooke Hopper and Billy Wilder.
