Born in Avignon, Pierre de Deimier (c. 1570-c. 1618) spent his youth in the Comtat Venaissin before settling in Paris in 1605, the year he published this long epic poem on the Battle of Lepanto, which saw the victory of the Holy League over the Ottoman fleet of Selim II.
The edition is dedicated to Henri IV and preceded by stanzas to the king, queen and dauphin. The last hundred pages of the volume collect various verse works by the Provençal poet under the title Première partie du Printemps de Vaucluse.
A very fine copy, finely bound by Lortic.
